Relationship of dietary patterns with hyperuricemia among residents aged 30-79 years in Changshou District of Chongqing Municipality

Abstract:Objective To explore dietary patterns and their associations with hyperuricemia (HUA) among residents in Changshou District of Chongqing Municipality, and to provide a reference basis for HUA prevention and control. Methods In September-December 2018, a stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 1,004 adult residents aged 30-79 years in Changshou District for a questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory testing. Factor analysis was employed to identify dietary patterns in the participants, and multivariate logistic regression model was applied to analyzing the relationship between dietary patterns and HUA. Results The prevalence rate of HUA in the residents aged 30-79 years in Changshou District was 10.36%. Factor analysis revealed four dietary patterns in the participants, including egg-milk-fruit pattern, meat consumption pattern, vegan pattern and staple food pattern, and the cumulative variance contribution rate of the four patterns was 41.58%. After adjusting for relevant confounding factors, it was found that high-level meat consumption pattern was a risk factor for HUA (OR=2.39, 95%CI:1.27-4.52), but high-level vegan pattern was a protective factor for HUA (OR=0.53, 95%CI:0.29-0.98). Conclusion Meat consumption pattern and vegan pattern are closely correlated with the prevalence of HUA among the adult residents in Changshou District of Chongqing Municipality.
