Abstract:Objective To analyze the risk of transmission in patients with COVID-19 after discharge from hospital. Methods We collected and analyzed the data about diagnosis, hospitalization, discharge and re-examination of 40 confirmed cases and 6 asymptomatic infected cases in Chenzhou City, and determined whether the patients were safe after discharge. Results As of May 31, 2020, all the 40 confirmed cases were cured and discharged from hospital according to the criteria for lifting isolation and discharge from COVID Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol (Trial Version 6). The length of hospital stay after confirmed diagnosis was 7-29 days, with an average of 12.50 days. 29 cases experienced hospitalization ≤14 days and 11 cases hospitalization >14 days. All the 6 asymptomatic infected patients were cured and discharged from hospital. The length of hospital stay after confirmed diagnosis was 6-16 days, with an average of 14 days. 5 cases experienced hospitalization ≤14 days and 1 case hospitalization >14 days. All of them were negative for viral nucleic acid testing of pharyngeal swabs twice or more. However, 6 confirmed cases were positive for viral nucleic acid retesting after discharge. Conclusion COVID-19 patients may still be at risk of transmission after they are discharged from hospital, suggesting that discharge standards should be improved, patients’ discharge management should be strengthened, and follow-up and rechecking should be standardized in time.
