Abstract:Objective To analyze the incidence, mortality and disease burden of lung cancer attributable to passive smoking in Chongqing Municipality, and to provide suggestions for lung cancer prevention and treatment. Methods Data about cases of lung cancer were sorted from Registration and Reporting System for Tumor in Chongqing Municipality in 2019. The passive smoking rate was collected from surveillance of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors in Chongqing Municipality in 2013. The data were analyzed to calculate population attributable risk percent (PAR%) and the incidence, mortality and disease burden of lung cancer due to passive smoking. Excel 2010 and SPSS 25.0 software were used to perform a statistical analysis. The differences in the rates were tested by Chi-square test. Results The passive smoking rate in adults aged 30 years and above in 2013 was 52.37%. The incidence rate and standardized incidence rate of lung cancer among adults aged 30 years and above in Chongqing Municipality in 2019 were 118.44/100,000 and 80.83/100,000, respectively, and the mortality rate and standardized mortality rate were 96.51/100,000 and 63.58/100,000, respectively. PAR% of the incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer attributable to passive smoking was 19.76 and 19.04, respectively. The incidence rate and standardized incidence rate of lung cancer attributable to passive smoking were 23.41/100,000 and 16.34/100,000, respectively. The mortality rate and standardized mortality rate of lung cancer attributable to passive smoking were 18.38/100,000 and 12.40/100,000, respectively. The rates of years of life lost (YLL) with premature death, years lived with disability (YLD), disability adjusted life year (DALY) due to lung cancer in adults aged 30 years and above in Chongqing Municipality in 2019 were 21.16‰, 0.31‰ and 21.47‰, respectively. PAR% of YLL, YLD andDALY rates attributable to passive smoking was 21.16, 19.76 and 20.49, respectively. The attributable rates of YLL, YLD and DALY were 4.34‰, 0.06‰ and 4.40‰, respectively. Conclusion The incidence, mortality, YLL, DALY and passive smoking rates of lung cancer in residents aged 30 years and above in Chongqing Municipality in 2019 were high. Disease burden of lung cancer attributable to passive smoking is heavy; and hence, tobacco control should be effectively implemented.
