Abstract:Objective To determine the effects of four items of blood lipids on blood pressure by using a panel data model. Methods We collected the physical examination data of community residents for 5 consecutive years, including blood lipids, blood pressure, height, weight and waist circumference. A panel data model was established by using blood pressure as the dependent variable, four items of blood lipids as the independent variable, and BMI and waist circumference as the control variables. And the effects of variation of blood lipid levels on blood pressure were analyzed. Results The univariate model indicated that systolic blood pressure was influenced by triglyceride (TG) and LDL (low-density lipoprotein), while diastolic blood pressure was affected by total cholesterol (TC), TG and LDL. The multivariate model revealed that systolic blood pressure was affected by high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and LDL, while diastolic blood pressure was influenced by LDL and TG. TC failed to enter the two equations. Conclusions Among the four items of blood lipids, TC can not affect blood pressure, the increased TG can induce elevated diastolic blood pressure, the ascended HDL can decline systolic blood pressure, and the rised LDL can increase both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. As for the dietary guidelines for the residents, it is not enough to make a simple recommendation that cholesterol intake is no longer restricted, and the policy-makers should synthesize current research Results and propose more accurate recommendations for fat intake.
