Abstract:Objective To explore the hearing of people over 60 years old and to analyze the characteristics of hearing loss in elderly people. Methods :Three hundred people over 60 years old were included in this survey. General health data was collected and HHIE-S was filled in by the subjects. At the same time, we used MADSEN ITERA to measure ears’ hearing threshold. Age, time of exposure to noise, ear infections, ototoxic drug use, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, were analyzed to investigate these factors’ effect on HHIE-S score. At the same time, the average hearing threshold and high hearing threshold among different groups of age, sex, income, education level, and smoking and drinking were compared, and logistic analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of hearing loss. Resutls Among 300 cases, one hundred cases were considered with hearing loss according to the HHIE-S scores. Among all the patients , mild patients were 56%(56/100), severe patients were 44%(44/100). Diabetes patients had significant influence on total HHIE-S score(P=0.032), E-score(P=0.035)and S-score(P=0.042). Ages was significantly associated with the S-scores (P=0.023). By MADSEN ITERA, Resutls showed that age, education level and income situation were related to the average hearing threshold. Age, sex, smoking and alcohol consumption were related to high hearing threshold. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that male, advanced age, smoking, alcohol were influence factors of hearing loss. Conclusion Hearing loss of elderly people was not only influenced by age, but also influenced by other factors. In order to improve the quality of life in older people, further study of the mechanism and its relevant factors should be explored.
