Abstract:Objective To analyze the similarities and differences of tuberculosis (TB) screening results of new students among different medical institutions in Chongqing Municipality, and to provide references for TB screening among new students in schools. Methods Tuberculosis screening data of new students and population data of students at all educational stages enrolled in autumn 2021 in Chongqing Municipality were collected by means of Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire for New Students in Chongqing and Chongqing Statistical Yearbook. The detection rate of active pulmonary tuberculosis and the strong positive rate of purified protein derivative tuberculin (PPD) test among the students were analyzed. SPSS 25.0 software was used for descriptive analysis and χ2 test. Results A total of 798,135 new students in Chongqing in 2021 were screened for TB, with the screening rate of 42.36%. High school (61.48%) and junior middle school (54.93%) had higher screening rates. 51 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis were found, and the detection rates of high school (34.82/100,000), higher education (28.59/100,000) andboarding junior middle school (11.83/100,000) were high. 197,469 students in preschools and primary schools were screened for TB, mainly by other medical institutions (41.44%). 14,587 new students from non-boarding junior high schools underwent TB symptom screening, and mainly screening by other medical institutions. 194,457 new students from boarding junior high schools underwent PPD test, and there were statistically significant differences in the detection rate of patients in different types of medical institutions (P=0.002) as well as in the strong positive rate of PPD test detected by different types of medical institutions (P<0.001). The detection rate of patients (23.45/100,000) and the strong positive rate of PPD test (2.76%) in designated medical institutions were high. 241,240 new students from high schools underwent PPD test, and there were statistically significant differences in the detection rate of patients in different types of medical institutions (P=0.001) as well as in the strong positive rate of PPD test detected by different types of medical institutions (P<0.001). The detection rate of patients (48.78/100,000) and the strong positive rate of PPD test (4.89%) in designated medical institutions were high. 150,382 freshmen at higher education stages underwent chest X-ray examination, and the detection rate of active pulmonary tuberculosis was 28.59/100,000. No statistically significant difference was found in the detection rate of patients in different types of medical institutions (P=0.785). Conclusion We should further improve the proportion of TB screening in preschool education, primary school education and higher education, establish the quality control system for TB screening, strengthening and standardizing TB screening in schools.
