Abstract:Objective To understand the serotyping and PFGE molecular typing of Salmonella isolates from foodborne diseases in Changsha City, and to provide a basis for prevention and control of foodborne diseases. Methods Faecal samples of foodborne disease cases in 4 sentinel hospitals in Changsha City were collected according to the Guidelines for Active Surveillance of Foodborne Diseases. Salmonella was isolated from the samples, and serological typing and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of Salmonella were performed. The electrophoretic map was analyzed by Bionumerics 7.6 software. Results A total of 528 samples were monitored throughout the year, and 50 strains of Salmonella were detected, with the detection rate of 9.47%. The positive cases were mainly in the age group of 5 years old and below, with the proportion being 74.00% (37/50). The incidence was mainly from May to September in summer and autumn, accounting for 76.00% (38/50) of the whole year. 12 serotypes were identified, and the main serotype was Salmonella typhimurium (60.00%, 30/50), followed by Salmonella Stanley (8.00%, 4/50) and Salmonella enteritis (6.00%, 3/50). PFGE typing of 50 strains of Salmonella was divided into 41 PFGE bands with similarity value of 55.7%-100%, showing polymorphism, and they were mainly divided into two clusters. There were 8 groups of strains with similarity of 100%, and a total of 17 strains with composition ratio of 34.00% (17/50). They were mainly Salmonella typhimurium. There were 10 clonal lines containing 32 strains of Salmonella with similarity of more than 90%. Conclusion The dominant serotype of Salmonella infection in foodborne diseases in Changsha City in 2021 was Salmonella typhimurium. PFGE molecular typing was polymorphic. PFGE typing can identify cases of common infection source and can be used for outbreak identification and control.
