Abstract:Objective To analyze the related factors influencing depressive symptoms in middle school students, and to provide evidence for further prevention and intervention of occurrence of depressive symptoms among middle school students. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to collect the information about health problems from 1,734 middle school students in Suzhou City by online questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors related to depressive symptoms in middle school students. Results There were 304 middle school students with depressive symptoms, with the detection rate of 17.53%. Logistic regression analysis showed that females (OR=1.894,95%CI:1.440-2.492), alcohol consumption (OR=2.902,95%CI:2.188-3.849), having been beaten and scolded by parents (OR=2.674,95%CI:2.026-3.530), and doing at least 60 minutes or more of moderate or high intensity exercise zero times per day in the past week (OR=3.930,95%CI:2.287-6.753) were the factors affecting depressive symptoms in the middle school students. Conclusion The detection rate of depression symptoms in the middle school students in Suzhou City was 17.53%. The middle school students should be considered as key population for depression symptom prevention, control, propaganda and intervention. It is suggested to take targeted prevention and control measures according to different genders, drinking, exercise frequency and parent-child relationship.
