Current status of key indicators about diabetes prevention, control and management and its influencing factors among residents aged 35-75 years in Chongqing Municipality

Abstract：Objective To analyze the current status of key indicators with regard to diabetes prevention and control and its influencing factors among residents aged 35-75 years in Chongqing Municipality, and to provide a basis for implementing comprehensive prevention and treatment of diabetes. Methods Permanent residents aged between 35 and 75 years were recruited from 8 sites about China Patient-centered Evaluative Assessment of Cardiac Events in Chongqing from 2016 to 2018. All residents were interviewed with a structured questionnaire and underwent physical examination, glucose test and blood lipid biochemical test. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 25.0 software. Chi-square test was used to compare the key indicators about diabetes prevention and control (including the rates of awareness, treatment and control) in different populations, and their related factors were identified by backward stepwise multivariate regression analysis. Results A total of 101,036 residents were surveyed. The prevalence rates of dyslipidemia, hypertension and diabetes were 31.48%, 40.80% and 17.11%, respectively. The standardized prevalence rates of dyslipidemia, hypertension and diabetes were 30.81%, 33.91% and 14.35%, respectively. The awareness, treatment and control rates of diabetes were 41.40%, 33.76% and 13.17%, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that age, ethnic group, occupation, household income, alcohol consumption and present smoking were associated with the awareness rate of diabetes. Age, ethnic group, occupation, household income and alcohol consumption were correlated with the treatment rate of diabetes. Registered residence, age, ethnic group, hypertension and dyslipidemia were related to the control rate of diabetes. Conclusion The prevalence rate of diabetes in Chongqing was high, whereas the awareness, treatment and control rates of diabetes were low. It is necessary to implement comprehensive prevention and treatment of diabetes targeted at key population and risk factors so as to improve the effect of diabetes prevention and treatment.
