Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the coping ability of infectious diseases in medical institutions at all levels in Hubei Province, and then a general statistical analysis was performed. Results The proportions of monitoring and reporting on cases of fever, diarrhea, influenza-like illness (ILI) and unexplained pneumonia were high in medical institutions at all levels, but the proportions of monitoring and timely reporting on the number of emergency admissions, sepsis/infectious shock and unexplained death as well as the proportion of sharing informationabout abnormal cases with other health departments were all low. There were regional differences in laboratory testing capability, provision of medical facilities and equipments, capacity expansion under emergency conditions, and financial input of emergency funds.
