Abstract:Objective To understand the status quo and influencing factors of sexual values among freshmen and sophomores so as to provide references for development of school education about sexual values. Methods The questionnaire was designed according to the International Technical Guidelines for Sexual Education. A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 1,053 freshmen and sophomores from universities in Chengdu for a questionnaire survey. The current status and influencing factors of sexual values in the freshmen and sophomores were explored by using t-test, analysis of variance and multiple linear regression analysis. Results The score of sexual values in the freshmen and sophomores in Chengdu was (35.67±4.60) points. The score of sexual values was higher in female students than in male ones (t=-5.198, P<0.001) as well as higher in urban students than in rural ones (t=-5.073, P<0.001). The score of sexual values was higher in college students whose fathers had higher educational degrees(F=3.640,P<0.05), but lower in college students whose mothers (F=6.930,P<0.001)or fathers(F=7.354,P<0.001) were farmers. College students with higher monthly family income (F=3.737,P<0.05)and monthly living expenses (F=10.431,P<0.001)scored higher on sexual values, with statistically significant differences. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that female students, urban students and college students with high monthly living expenses had more scientific sexual values (P<0.05).Conclusions Some freshmen and sophomores have unscientific sexual values. Society, universities and parents should pay special attention to the cultivation of children’s sexual values. According to the requirement of the International SexualEducation Technical Guidelines, comprehensive sexual education should be carried out to create a positive and healthy social cultural environment.
