Abstract:Objective To study the relation of ear-use habits with hearing loss among university graduates, and to provide importance evidence for advocating healthy ear-use and protecting young students’ hearing. Methods This was a cross-sectional study. A combination approach of occupational health examination and questionnaires was used to statistically analyze 184 research subjects’ ear-use habits and hearing loss status. Results The incidence rate of high-frequency hearing loss in the subjects was 40.2% (74/184). 7 subjects had speech-frequency hearing loss, with an incidence rate of 3.8% (7/184); moreover, they also suffered from high-frequency hearing loss. Having a habit of wearing headphones and sleeping with headphones were risk factors for high-frequency hearing loss of the subjects. Conclusions The problem of high-frequency hearing loss is severe in university graduates, suggesting that students should develop good ear-use habits and control the time of using earphones. Universities and public health institutions should strengthen health education about healthy ear-use habits and hearing protection among on-campus students and popularize occupational health knowledge.
