Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and endometrial cancer (EC) so as to determine whether PCOS might increase the risk of developing EC. Methods We searched Pubmed, the Cochrane Library, Medline, Wanfang, CNKI and other databases, and collected the literature about PCOS in relation to the risk of developing EC. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of the literature. A meta-analysis was performed to calculate odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) of the included case-control studies by using STATA 12.0 software, and a systematic review of cohort studies were also conducted. Results A total of 442 studies were retrieved, and finally 7 eligible studies (including 4 case-control studies and 3 cohort studies) were included. Meta analysis of case-control studies showed that there was no significant correlation between PCOS and EC (OR=1.82, 95%CI=0.84-3.93, I2=64.6%, P=0.037). Conclusions No significant correlation is found between PCOS and the risk of developing EC based on the current evidence. But the relationship between them is complex and is affected by many factors; and hence, further better-designed studies are still required.
