Abstract:Objective To investigate the current situation of HIV/AIDS-related high-risk behavior and the history of receiving HIV/AIDS prevention services among college students in Changsha City, and to provide a basis for developing HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategies based on college students. Methods We conducted a questionnaire survey of individual general information, sexual behavior and drug use among undergraduates and postgraduates selected from three comprehensive universities in Changsha City from November, 2015 to January, 2016. SPSS21.0 software was used to process and analyze the data. Results Among 962 participants surveyed, 5 male students used drugs, and 83.8%(806/962)received HIV/AIDS prevention services in recent one year. 11.6% (112/962) had sexual behavior in recent 6 months, 10.3% (99/962) heterosexual sex, 2.1% (20/962) commercial sex, and 4.7% (26/552) of the male students homosexual behavior. The prevalence rate of sexual behavior was found to be higher in male group, minority group, elder age group, non-key university group, senior group and liberal arts group (all P<0.05), but the commercial sex showed no difference in gender. The proportion of condom use in the last sexual behavior was 55.4% (62/112), and no statistically significant difference was observed in the rate of condom use between males and females as well as between non-commercial and commercial sexual behavior (both P>0.05). The prevalence rate of high-risk sexual behavior was 7.7% (74/962), and it correlated with the gender (male vs. female, OR=4.163, 95%CI:1.752-9.893, P=0.001), ethnic origin (minorities vs. the Han nationality, OR=4.203, 95%CI:4.563-11.301, P=0.004), university level (first-tier vs. others, OR=11.187, 95%CI:5.371-23.298, P<0.001), grade (grades III-V vs. grades I-II, OR=2.285, 95%CI: 1.109-4.708, P=0.025) and receiving HIV/AIDS prevention services in recent one year (yes vs. no, OR=0.339, 95%CI:0.158-0.729, P=0.006). Conclusions The college students in Changsha City have high-risk behavior related to HIV infection, and the proportion of receiving HIV/AIDS prevention services is not high. It is necessary to pay special attention to the college students’ high-risk behavior and take targeted publicity and behavioral intervention measures.
