Abstract:Objective To identify and evaluate the allergic skin reaction and photoallergic skin reaction induced by recombinant human lactoferrin (rhLF) as cosmetic new material in mammalian. Methods The allergic skin reaction test and Freund’s complete adjuvant test on guinea pigs were used to evaluate the allergenicity and photosensitivity of rhLF. Results No skin allergic reaction, such as erythema and edema, as well as other poisoning indexes were observed in the allergic skin reaction test (no animal in the test substance group had skin reaction integration ≥ 2, so the sensitivity rate was 0%). After rhLF was smeared on guinea pigs’ topical skin and UVA light irradiation was performed, no skin irritation and allergy photoallergic reaction were found (no animal in the test substance group had skin reaction integration ≥ 2, so the sensitivity rate was 0%). Conclusions RhLF has no sensitization and light sensitization to skin.
