Infection status of HIV, HCV, HBsAg and syphilis and related risk factors among female sex workers in entertainment places in Lucheng district of Wenzhou city

Abstract：Objective To understand the infection state of HIV,HCV,HBsAg and syphilis and related risk factors among female sex workers in entertainment placesIn Lucheng district,and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of the diseases. Methods Different high risk sites were selected by stratified random sampling,then the female sex workers were surveyed by using cluster sampling (less than 25 people) or convenience sample method (more than 25 people).With informed consent obtained,a cross sectional survey was conducted using structured anonymous questionnaire by well trained investigators,and blood samples were collected to detect HIV,HCV, HBsAg and syphilis antibody. Results A total of 412 investigated,67.96% of them were aged 20 to 29 years, 63.84% of them received below junior or middle school education ,61.65% were unmarried.89.08% cases were other provinces, The general awareness rate of AIDS related knowledge was 70.87%.The percentage of using condom was low,only 48.30% reported consistent use and 12.14% never use. 53.71% of the them had done HIV detection. 18.20% have had sexually transmitted diseases and 1.46% reported taking drug.0 HIV antibody positive case was detected from 412 samples. The positive rates of HCV,HBsAg,syphilis were 0.24%,6.31% and 2.43%,respectively.The positive rates of syphilis in Low-grade and high-grade places were 5.15%, 1.59%,respectively,and the positive rates of syphilis had or not Venereal disease during the past year were 8.51%, 1.64%, respectively, Positive rates of syphilis specific differences between different grade places and ever had or not a sexually transmitted disease were statistical significant(χ2=3.985,P=0.045; χ2=8.290,P=0.004). Conclusions The awareness of AIDS related knowledge among female sex workers suggests insufficient,the percentage of using condom is low,overall HIV infection rate at lower levels, the syphilis infection rate is higher in low grade places and had the Venereal disease. It is urgent to further strengthen the health education and behavior intervention on this population.
