Rapid analysis of 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in drinking water by automated solid phase micro-extraction coupled with gas chromatography- mass spectrometry

Abstract：Objective To develop a method for the rapid analysis of 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in drinking water by automated solid phase micro-extraction with gas chromatography- mass spectrometry. Methods The 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in water were extracted using 50/30μm Divinylbenzene/Carboxen/PDMS (DVB/CAR/PDMS)fiber,and then the fiber was introduced into the GC injector port and the extracts were desorbed at 250 ℃ with CTC automated solid phase micro-extraction device. A Full Scan had been done to find the potential pollutants and the detection of 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds was carried out by GC-QqQ-MS/MS in the selected ion monitoring (SIM) or the multi-reaction monitoring (MRM) mode and quantified using external standard method. Results At 100 ug/L spiked level,the 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds were all qualitative screening out in Full Scan mode;The detection limits ranged from 0.00011~2.4μg/L with recoveries of 70.7%~123.0% and relative standard deviations of 1.8%~13.1%(n=6).Conclusion The results demonstrated that this method is simple, rapid, sensitive and accurate .This method is applicable to confirm the 45 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in emergent events of drinking water.
