Abstract:Objective To understand the carriage rate of neisseria meningitis in healthy population in Beijing Chaoyang district, and to provide scientific basis for epidemic cerenrospinal meningitis prevention and control. Methods Throat swab samples of healthy population divided in 9 age-groups(1-4 years, 5-9 years, 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, above 40 years)were collected in 2009-2013 in Chaoyang district, specimens were inoculated in Bi-Antibiotic Chocolate Agar Plates on site for isolation and culture. Results The carriage rate of neisseria meningitis in healthy population was between 1.19% and 4.58% in 2009-2013. There was significant difference in the carriage rate among each age group in 2009, 2010 and 2013. However, no difference was found in 2011 and 2012. The carriage rate was higher in male population group than in female group in 5 years. Significant difference showed in the two gender groups in 2009, 2010, but not in 2011-2013. There was no significant difference between two groups of people who had been vaccinated or not. 34 strains of neisseria meningitides including group A,C,Y,W135 were detected in 2009-2013, and group B was found the most. Conclusions The carriage rate of epidemic neisseria meningitis in healthy population in Chaoyang district is rather low. Group B is the leading group of neisseria meningitides
