Abstract:Objective To understand the antibody levels of measles and rubella among healthy population in Chongqing municipality so as to provide a basis for formulating immunization strategies. Methods A multistage cluster random sampling method was used to select 8 monitored districts/counties in Chongqing municipality in October, 2018, and then 2 monitored sites (village committee or community) were selected from each monitored district/county. 188 residents aged 1-30 years were randomly chosen from each monitored sites to conduct blood sampling and questionnaire surveys. Enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay was employed to detect the serum levels of measles and rubella immunoglobulin G(IgG) antibodies. Results A total of 2,855 blood specimens were collected, and the positive rates of measles and rubella IgG antibodies were 93.42% and 88.65%, respectively. The positive rate of measles IgG antibody showed statistically significant differences among different age groups(χ2=121.873, P<0.05)and different monitored districts/counties(χ2=31.703, P<0.05), but showed no statistically significant differences between different genders (χ2=0.204, P>0.05) as well as among different ethnic groups (χ2=3.782, P>0.05). The positive rate of rubella IgG antibody showed statistically significant differences among different age groups (χ2=54.858, P<0.05), different monitored districts/counties (χ2=99.009, P<0.05) and different ethnic groups (χ2=11.331, P<0.05), but showed no statistically significant difference in different genders (χ2=0.255, P>0.05). The positive rates of measles and rubella IgG antibodies were lower in the age group of 7-14 years as well as in some areas like Yubei district and Dianjiang county. Conclusions The serum levels of measles and rubella IgG antibodies were generally high among healthy population in Chongqing municipality, but the low positive rates were still found in the age group of 7-14 years and some areas. Strategies like using the measles-rubella vaccine in a catch-up campaign should be conducted in time in those priority areas and age group so as to reduce the susceptible population.
