Abstract:Objective To understand the pathogenic biological characteristics, drug sensitivity and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) typing characteristics of Neisseria meningitides serogroup B isolated in Hunan province. Methods The drug sensitivity test and PFGE typing were carried out on 29 Neisseria meningitides serogroup B strains which were identified biochemically and serologically. Resultss Twenty-nine Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B strains were all sensitive to minocycline, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, meropenem, rifampicin, chloramphenicol and azithromycin, and their sensitivities to penicillin and ampicillin were 75.86% and 86.21%, respectively. They were highly resistant to ciprofloxacin (34.48%), levofloxacin (41.38%) and compound sulfamethoxazole (96.55%). 29 Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B strains were divided into 22 bands by PFGE typing, and the isolates in different regions showed the same band pattern. Conclusions The sensitivities of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B strains to antibacterial drugs were basically consistent with those of other serogroups, and PFGE typing presented highly different types. There was a certain genetic correlation between PFGE bands in healthy people and patients. We should continue to carry out molecular typing monitoring and pay close attention to the spread of strains.
