Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of interaction between blood glucose and gender on noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Methods A case-control study was conducted to inquire and investigate the general information, occupational history, past history and occupational health monitoring data of workers exposed to noise. Univariate analysis was performed. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors influencing NIHL, and then multiplicative interaction analysis was conducted. Results Among 1,628 noise-exposed workers surveyed, 616 (37.84%) suffered from NIHL,The risk factors for NIHL were high blood glucose (OR=1.960, 95%CI:1.345-2.855), male (OR=4.346, 95%CI:2.866-6.590), high environmental noise intensity (OR=1.036, 95%CI:1.016-1.056), high monocyte count (OR=8.522, 95%CI:3.054-23.776) and low platelet count (OR=0.997, 95%CI:0.994-0.999). The risk of NIHL in workers with high blood glucose was 1.960 times that of normal blood glucose (P<0.01), and the risk of NIHL in males was 4.346 times that of females (P<0.01). The risk of NIHL increased 1.036 times for each unit increase in the intensity of environmental noise. The additive interaction between high blood glucose and male on NIHL was statistically significant, and the values of odds ratio and synergy index were 8.962 and 2.123, respectively. Conclusion It is necessary to build fasting blood glucose examination into routine examination items of thenoise-exposed workers, strengthen the surveillance on blood glucose level of male noise-exposed workers, screen out workers with high blood glucose and give certain control and intervention, and transfer out of their post if necessary.
