Abstract:Objective To investigate the status of condom use and its influencing factors among female sex workers (FSWs) in rural areas in Guangxi, and to provide a reference basis for developing comprehensive HIV/AIDS intervention measures. Methods A multistage sampling method was used to recruit rural FSWs at national and provincial level prostitution points from April to June 2019. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among them, and the survey content included location of the venue, general demographic information, HIV/AIDS knowledge, sexual behavior characteristics, and condoms use. Multivariate unconditional logistic regression method was used to analyze the factors related to condom use in the last month. Results A total of 1,350 rural FSWs were investigated in 2019, with an average age of (42.71±8.62) years. The awareness rate of HIV/AIDS knowledge was 95.63% (1,291/1,530). The proportion of condom use in the last commercial sex was 94.72% (1,274/1,345). The proportion of condoms used every time during commercial sex in the last month was 87.85% (1,186/1,350). Multivariate unconditional logistic regression indicated that awareness of HIV/AIDS knowledge (OR=14.857, 95%CI:8.196-26.932) was a promoting factor for the persistence of condom use. Villages as trading places (OR=0.180, 95%CI:0.106-0.304) and age range of 30 years and above (30- age group, OR=0.275, 95%CI: 0.090-0.841; 50- age group, OR=0.131, 95%CI:0.042-0.407) were obstacle factors for the persistence of condom use. Conclusion Comprehensive interventions such as the promotion of condom use should be further strengthened in rural areas and older female sex workers.
