Synergistic effect of drinking tea and healthy lifestyle on diabetes prevalence among residents aged 30-79 years in Chongqing Municipality

Abstract：Objective To analyze the synergistic effect of drinking tea and healthy lifestyle on diabetes prevalence so as to provide suggestions for diabetes prevention and treatment. Methods The baseline data of natural population cohort study in southwest were analyzed by SPSS 25.0. The differences in diabetes prevalence of different populations were compared by Chi-square test. The synergistic effect of drinking tea and healthy lifestyle on diabetes prevalence was analyzed by bivariate multivariate logistic regression. Results A total of 23,308 residents were recruited into this study, with the average age being (51.56±11.78) years. 21.00% of the surveyed residents had a habit of drinking tea, and 15.87% of them had a healthy lifestyle. The crude prevalence and age standardized prevalence of diabetes were 11.55% and 9.35%, respectively. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that drinking tea and unhealthy lifestyle in univariate logistic regression(OR=1.751, 95%CI:1.521-2.015), drinking tea and unhealthy lifestyle after adjusting demographic characteristics(OR=1.289, 95%CI:1.105-1.503), and drinking tea and unhealthy lifestyle after adjusting demographic characteristics and major chronic non-communicable diseases(OR=1.294, 95%CI:1.103-1.517) were associated with diabetes prevalence. Conclusion The prevalence of diabetes in Chongqing Municipality was high, and there was a synergistic effect between drinking tea and unhealthy lifestyle.
