Abstract:Objective To evaluate the impact of sedentary behavior on the risk of ovarian cancer using a systematic review method. Methods China Knowledge Network database, Wanfang database, Weipu database, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched for prospective cohort studies regarding the relationship between sedentary behavior and ovarian cancer published until January 15, 2019; meanwhile, a hand search of the references of included articles was conducted. Two researchers screened the studies based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted valid data, and performed a meta-analysis using Revman 5.3 software. Results A total of 384,779 participants from 5 prospective cohort studies were included in this meta-analysis. The number of cases diagnosed with ovarian cancer during the follow-up was 2,278. The results showed that sedentary behavior had a certain impact on the risk of ovarian cancer, and there was a positive correlation between them, with a statistically significant difference (multi-factor correction: RR=1.55, 95%CI=1.32-1.81, P<0.01). Conclusions Current evidence suggests that the longer sedentary behavior, the higher the risk of ovarian cancer. In view of the limitations of this analysis that only includes 5 studies with more confounding factors, further multi-center, large-sample and high-quality prospective cohort studies should be performed for validation.
