Abstract:Objective To analyze the status of vitamin D nutrition and its relationship with height development among children aged 0-6 years in Longhua New District of Shenzhen City. Methods General demographic survey, physical examination and serum vitamin D detection were performed in 1,286 preschoolers in Longhua New District from January to December in 2016. According to the age, the objects were divided into the baby group aged 1 month~1 year (n=382), the infant group aged >1~3 years (n=337) and the preschool group aged > 3~6 years (n=567). The general nutritional status of vitamin D, age characteristics, seasonal characteristics and the relationship between vitamin D status and height development were summarized. Results The average height of different age groups was diverse, and all met the national standard. The average level of serum 25 (OH) D was(35.37±10.81)nmol/L. With the increase of age, the serum vitamin D level decreased significantly, and the differences were statistically significant (F=190.06, P=0.00). The percentage of vitamin D deficiency in the preschool group was relatively high (53.62%). As for the seasonal distribution, the average value of serum 25 (OH) D reached the highest (all ≥40 nmol/L) from June to August. Correlation analysis showed that the serum vitamin D level had a positive effect on the height of children. Conclusions The average vitamin D level and height of the children aged 0-6 years in Longhua New District of Shenzhen City in 2016 were basically up to standard, but vitamin D deficiency still prevailed. Thus the relevant health departments and parents should pay more attention to the situation, and take targeted measures based on seasonal and age characteristics of serum vitamin D levels to promote vitamin D supplement among the children.
