Abstract:Objective To evaluate the energy intake status and dietary structure of resident adult in Changping District, Beijing City. Methods With the multi-stage, random-clustered sampling strategy, 198 households were selected from 4 urban and 2 village resident's committees of Changping and interviewed to collect information on food intake. A 24-hour dietary recalling and condiments weighing method was used to calculate the average consumption of foods per standard person per day. Results The average energy intake was 7.48 (6.06-9.31) MJ per standard person per day for Changping resident adults, 34.4% lower than that of 2002.The energy intake was significantly different between female and male (P < 0.01), as well as different between rural people and urban people (P < 0.05). The association of energy intake to physical activity level was also observed (P < 0.01). For energy intake levels, 50.3% of residents were between 80%-120% EER; 34.9% were lower than 80% EER; and 14.8% were over 120% EER;The percentage of calories was 54.3% from carbohydrate, 33.7% from fat, and 12.6% from protein respectively. For the study residents, dietary structure was influenced by their educational level, economic status and physical activity. Compared with 2002, cereals consumption (53.7%) had increased by 2.9%, animal products consumption (16.8%) deceased by 2.7%, and pure heat food consumption (17.3%) grown by 3.0%. Conclusions For Changping residents, the dietary energy intake had a declining tendency compared with that of 2002. The energy contribution proportion of macronutrients was imbalanced and remained to be optimized. The dietary structure of Changping residents was improved, but the energy ratio produced by pure heat food had been increasing. Related intervention strategies such as nutritional education should be implemented to tackle this problem.
