Abstract:Objective To investigate the current status of disinfection in elderly care institutions in Hunan Province, to understand the familiarity of disinfection knowledge and work quality of disinfection personnel, and to provide a technical basis for doing a good job in disinfection work in elderly care institutions. Methods We conducted an on-site questionnaire survey on the general situation of elderly care institutions in Hunan Province. According to GB 15982-2012 Hygienic Standard for Disinfection in Hospitals, on-site samples were taken from elderly care institutions and sent to the laboratory for testing, and the survey results were statistically analyzed. Results As compared with private (enterprise) elderly care institutions, the qualified rates of the overall samples (69.33% vs. 80.39%), object surface (65.72% vs. 82.98%) and hand samples of staff (68.73% vs. 77.05%) were all significantly lower in township (street) elderly care institutions, showing statistically significant differences (χ2=60.109, P<0.01; χ2=87.475, P<0.01; χ2=4.975, P<0.05). The proportion of disinfection personnel familiar with disinfectant formulation in private (enterprise) elderly care institutions was significantly higher than that in township (street)ones (χ2=8.003, P<0.01). Conclusion We should attach importance to and strengthen the training of disinfection skills for disinfection professionals in township (street) elderly care institutions, continuously improve the quality of disinfection, and simultaneously enhance the supervision of disinfection work so as to reduce the occurrence of infections in elderly care institutions.
