Abstract:Objective To detect the types of enterotoxin genes in Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) isolated from samples of food poisoning and food, and to compare the differences in the distribution and typing of enterotoxin genes isolated from the two kinds of samples. Methods Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect enterotoxin genes (SEA-SEJ) in S. aureus. Results Enterotoxin genes were detected in 75 strains of S. aureus isolated from food samples (58.14%, 75/129) and in 73 strains of S. aureus isolated from food poisoning samples (93.59%, 73/78) respectively. The detection rate of enterotoxin genes in the food poisoning samples was significantly higher than that in the food samples (P<0.01). SEI (21.71%) was the major prevalent enterotoxin gene in the isolates from the food samples, while SEA (41.03%) was the main prevalent enterotoxin gene in the isolates from the food poisoning samples. Conclusions There exist differences in the typing and distribution of enterotoxin genes in S. aureus isolated from food samples and food poisoning samples.
