Abstract:To understand the vision status of primary and secondary students in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City and provide the basis for the development of control measures. Methods Visual examination was carried out on 28730 primary and middle school students. According to the standard of poor vision, the students were classified as normal, mild, moderate and severe group. The data were statistically analyzed by calculating the detection rate of poor vision and the proportion of severe poor vision by spss16.0. Results The detection rate of poor vision was 88.09%,74.76% and 41.84%,and the proportion of severe poor vision was 82.48%,55.80% and 30.17% of the primary, middle and high school students respectively, with statistically significant difference (P<0.01).The detection rate and severe ratio of poor vision of the girls were significantly higher than that of the boys (P<0.01).With the increase of age, the detection rate and severe ratio of poor vision increased of the boys and girls, high detection rate and severe ratio of poor vision in the lower age groups, but those of the girls were higher than those of the boys in the same age group. Conclusion Poor vision of the primary and middle school students is serious in Huangpu District, and comprehensive measures should be taken to prevent juvenile myopia ,starting from the low grade students in the primary school.
