Abstract:Objective To analyze the features of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in Yangzhou City from 2008 to 2014, and to assess the running status of AEFI monitoring system. Methods Descriptive epidemiology Methods were used to analyze the AEFI cases reported by AEFI Information Management System during 2008-2014. Results Three hundred and fifty-eight cases of AEFI were reported, with a reported occurrence rate of 4.35/100,000. The top 3 trigger vaccines were live attenuated measles and rubella combined vaccine (MR), acellular DPT (diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus) vaccine and live attenuated measles vaccine (MV), which accounted for 15.64%, 13.13% and 12.01% of the total reported AEFI cases respectively. There were statistically significant differences in the occurrence rate of AEFI among different areas, years and vaccines (χ2=65.67, χ2=38.12, χ2=691.07, all P<0.01). 56.15% of the AEFI cases occurred in infants aged less than 1 year, 64.53% occurred within 24 hours after vaccination and 78.21% after the first dose of vaccination. Conclusions The AEFI Information Management System in Yangzhou City is sound and running normally; and hence, the safety of vaccination is acceptable in Yangzhou City.
