Abstract:Objective To understand the current status of HPV vaccine hesitation among female university students in Shanghai Municipality, and to analyze the factors influencing HPV vaccine hesitation based on the 3C model (complacency, confidence and convenience as the core) proposed by the World Health Organization. Methods With a stratified sampling method, an online survey was conducted in female students from 17 universities in Shanghai Municipality in June-July, 2022. Chi-square test, t-test, and binary logistic regression were used to analyze the factors influencing HPV vaccine hesitancy. Results Among the 435 female university students surveyed, 90.1% were willing to receive the HPV vaccine, and only 9.9% had vaccine hesitancy. Single factor analysis of HPV vaccine hesitancy in the female university students revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the necessity of vaccination (χ2=98.029, P<0.001), trust in domestic vaccines and companies (χ2=27.776, P<0.001), trust in foreign vaccines and companies (χ2=33.023, P<0.001), preventive effect of the vaccines (χ2=66.620, P<0.001), trust in medical professionals’ recommendation for vaccination (χ2=79.861, P<0.001), vaccination process (χ2=7.266, P=0.007), and the vaccines’ prices (χ2=4.469, P=0.035). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the necessity of vaccination (OR=4.803, 95%CI:1.803-12.797), preventive effect of the vaccines (OR=3.639, 95%CI:1.381-9.587), trust in medical professionals’ recommendation for vaccination (OR=7.366, 95%CI:2.668-20.337), and vaccination process (OR=6.100, 95%CI:1.079-34.494) were influencing factors for vaccine hesitation among the female university students. Conclusion It is necessary to improve the female university students’ awareness of necessity of HPV vaccination and trust in the HPV vaccine and optimize vaccination process through multi-channel publicity so as to reduce the degree of HPV vaccine hesitancyand improve the vaccination rate among the female university students.
