Abstract:Objective To investigate the status of occupational stress and quality of life among medical professionals in Shenzhen City, and to quantitatively analyze the influence of occupational stress on quality of life. Methods The method of stratified random sampling was used to conduct a cross-sectional investigation with self-designed social demographic information questionnaire, the Occupational Stress Inventory Revised Edition and the Short-form 36 Health Status Questionnaire (SF-36). A total of 1,114 medical professionals were surveyed, and 992 qualified questionnaires were obtained. The data were statistically analyzed by path analysis and other methods. Results The scores of physical health, mental health and overall quality of life in the medical professionals in Shenzhen City were (73.04±16.83), (69.69±17.99), and (71.36±16.11), respectively, which were all lower than the national norms. There were correlations among occupational task, individual stress response and individual coping resources as well as among the three dimensions and the overall quality of life. Path analysis revealed that gender and individual stress response had direct effects on the overall quality of life. Occupational task had an indirect effect on the overall quality of life through individual stress response as a mediating variable. Length of service not only directly affected the overall quality of life, but also indirectly affected the overall quality of life through the three dimensions of occupational stress as mediating variables. Individual coping resources not only directly affected the overall quality of life, but also indirectly affected the overall quality of life through individual stress response as a mediating variable. Conclusion Occupational stress affects the quality of life of the medical staff. We should pay more attention to key populations, and improve the quality of life of the medical staff by relieving occupational stress and strengthening individual coping resources.
