Abstract:Objective To evaluate the immunization safety of free and self-paid hepatitis B vaccines (HepB) in Fujian Province during 2015-2016. Methods We collected the data concerning HepB-induced adverse events following immunization (AEFI) occurred in Fujian Province during 2015-2016 from the national AEFI surveillance and information management system and the immunization data of HepB through the China Immunization Program Information Management System, and then analyzed. Results A total of 239 AEFI cases caused by free HepB were reported in Fujian Province during 2015-2016, with the reported incidence rate being 6.67/100,000 doses. The male-female sex ratio was 1.06:1. Most of the reported cases were infants aged 0-<1 year (234/239, 97.91% ). 29 AEFI cases induced by self-paid HepB were reported, with the reported incidence rate of 3.40/100,000 doses. The male-female sex ratio was 1.23:1, and 26 (89.66%) cases were children aged ≥ 1 year. There were statistically significant differences in the reported incidence rates of common adervse reaction (5.08/100,000 doses vs. 2.34/100,000 doses, χ2=11.35, P=0.0008), fever (4.55/100,000 doses vs. 1.17/100,000 doses, χ2=20.18, P=0.0001) and induration (0.45/100,000 doses vs. 1.05/100,000 doses, χ2=4.52, P=0.0336) between free and self-paid HepB. The main clinical adverse effects were fever, swelling, induration and anaphylactic rash. Conclusions There existed a difference in the reported incidence rate of common adervse reaction between free and self-paid HepBin Fujian Province during 2015-2016. The free and self-paid HepB boasts extreme safety; and hence, the public should believe the free HepBfunded by the government.
