Abstract:ObjectTo explore the reasons and epidemic characters of the mumps outbreak in a kingdom in Shenzhen and provide the evidences for the disease prevention and control. MethodEpidemiological survey method was used to investigate the epidemic intensity, distribution and the cause of the outbreak. ResultsThe overall attack rate was 7.48 % (44/588) with statistic difference between gender (χ2=4.67, P=0.031). The median age was 5 year old, and the first case was found in February 27 2014, while the epidemic situation lasted 3.5 months when it spread to 6 classes in 4 generation with the 33.33% (6/18) of early cases not being separated timely. There was a statistic difference (χ2=27.80,P<0.001) between the total vaccination rates in 6 epidemic classes( 59.41%, 120/202) and the others(81.61%, 213/261). Within the epidemic classes, the Vaccine effectiveness index (VE) was 59.81% and the vaccination rates were 62.08% (167/269) and 85.57% (166/194) for high grades and others with a statistic difference (χ2=35.79,P<0.001). ConclusionsThis event is a kingdom mumps outbreak after a child case bringing in. The risk factors of the propagation might be bad condition and low vaccination of mumps. It should be effective for mumps outbreak prevention and control that contains implementation of the inoculation rate of the measles mumps rubella combined vaccine (MMR), strengthening the kindergarten management.
