Abstract:Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become a global public health problem seriously affecting the health of human beings, and places a heavy burden on individuals, society and the economy. The dramatic rise in the prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is fueled mainly by the continuing global obesity epidemic. Lifestyle and medical nutrition therapy (MNT) are considered to be the focus of prevention and management of T2DM. However, there is no consensus on certain lifestyle and MNT recommendations on T2DM. This review aims to evaluate the evidence on the effects of five popular dietary patterns geared towards diabetes management and provide references for MNT of T2DM.
