Abstract:Objective To understand the status quo and influencing factors of four kinds of life skills concerning AIDS prevention and control among female normal college students so as to provide evidence for effective prevention of AIDS among them. Methods A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 4,064 female students in a normal college, and then a questionnaire survey on life skills concerning AIDS prevention and control was conducted. General descriptive analysis, chi-square test and multivariate unconditional logistic regression analysis were applied to exploring the factors influencing life skills of AIDS prevention and control in the female normal college students. Results The possessing rates of four skills in reference to risk identification, refusal, help-seeking and negotiation were 79.72% (3,240/4,064), 60.88% (2,474/4,064), 58.56% (2,380/4,064) and 19.83% (806/4,064), respectively. Multivariate unconditional logistic regression analysis showed that heterosexuality (OR=1.47, 95%CI: 1.21-1.79) and willingness to be tested for HIV (OR=2.04, 95%CI: 1.65-2.51) were factors promoting the possessing rate of risk identification skill. Being born in a city (OR=1.48, 95%CI: 1.16-1.89), being an only daughter (OR=1.36, 95%CI: 1.14-1.61), being in love (OR=1.50, 95%CI: 1.24-1.81), and being willing to undergo HIV testing (OR=1.64, 95%CI: 1.25-2.16) were factors promoting the possessing rate of negotiation skill. Being an only daughter (OR=1.48, 95%CI: 1.29-1.70) and being willing to be tested for HIV (OR=1.28, 95%CI: 1.06-1.55) were factors promoting the possessing rate of rejection skill. Being born in a city (OR=1.48, 95%CI: 1.19-1.85) or town (OR=1.35, 95%CI: 1.15-1.59), second grade (OR=1.40, 95%CI: 1.20-1.64) or third grade (OR=1.34, 95%CI: 1.13-1.58), being an only daughter (OR=1.34, 95%CI: 1.15-1.55), heterosexuality (OR=1.26, 95%CI: 1.07-1.50) and willingness to be tested for HIV (OR=1.61, 95%CI: 1.33-1.96) were factors promoting the possessing rate of help-seeking skill. Conclusions The possessing rate of negotiation skill regarding AIDS prevention and control in the female normal college students is relatively low; and hence, it is necessary to strengthen the training of living skills about AIDS prevention and control among female normal college students who are not only daughters, non-heterosexuals, from rural areas, in the first grade, and have never been in love. At the same time, we should intensify health education about HIV testing and improve the college students' willingness to test HIV so as to promote the development of life skills concerning AIDS prevention and control among them.
