Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of counseling accompanied by family members on the initial antiviral therapy of patients with AIDS. Methods One hundred and fifty AIDS patients received the initial antiviral therapy were selected as the research objects, including 128 cases with a completed follow-up and 22 without. Among the 150 patients, 92 with family member accompanying consultation (including 80 with a completed follow-up and 12 without) were enrolled in the family member accompanying group, while 58 without family member accompanying consultation (including 48 with a completed follow-up and 10 without) served as the control group. The control group was given systematic AIDS education management, while the family member accompanying group additionally adopted systematic education intervention for family members on the basis of the control group. A one-year follow-up study was conducted through WeChat, QQ, telephone and outpatient clinics. The changes of CD4+T lymphocyte count and viral load before and after the treatment were statistically analyzed. After the one-year treatment, the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) was issued to evaluate the situation of social support, World Health Organization on Quality of Life Brief Scale (WHOQOL-BREF) was used to evaluate the quality of life, and Medical Coping Style Questionnaire (MCMQ) to evaluate the coping style. The treatment compliance was surveyed, and the 1-year mortality was statistically analyzed. Results After the one-year treatment, CD4+T lymphocyte count in the two groups increased, but the viral load decreased, showing statistically significant differences between before and after the treatment (P<0.05). The varying range in the family member accompanying group was more significant than that in the control group (P<0.05). The treatment compliance rate was higher in the family member accompanying group than in the control group (91.25% vs. 75.0%, P<0.05). The scores of SSRS((30.13±5.17)vs. (28.06±5.41)), WHOQOL-BREF ((78.61±13.64)vs. (70.59±12.87)) and positive coping ((20.02±3.01)vs. (16.58±3.24)) in the family member accompanying group were all higher than those in the control group, while the scores of negative emotion (14.98 ±2.83) and resignation coping (11.64±2.03) were lower than those in the control group ((16.24±3.04) and (13.76±2.18), both P<0.05). The 1-year mortality rate in the family member accompanying group was lower than that in the control group (1.25% vs. 10.47%, P<0.05). Conclusions Family member accompanying counseling can promote the compliance of initial antiviral therapy for AIDS, improve the CD4+T lymphocyte count, reduce the viral load and improve the quality of life.
