Abstract:Objective To investigate the levels and dietary exposure risk of veterinary drug residues in eggs sold in Tianjin Municipality. Methods Three hundred and seventy-five samples of commercially available eggs were collected in TianjinMunicipality from 2016 to 2021, and the residues of 27 veterinary drugs were detected by liquid chromatography-massspectrometry/mass spectrometry and gas chromatography. The dietary exposure risk of veterinary drug residues in the eggs was assessed by the index of food safety (IFS). Result Among 375 egg samples detected, the detection rate of veterinary drug residues was 32.27% (121/375), with the unqualified rate being 29.33% (110/375). The top three veterinary drugs in terms of the detection rates were doxycycline (18.73%, 53/283), metronidazole (16.96%, 48/283) and oxytetracycline (10.60%, 30/283). The top three veterinary drugs in terms of the unqualified rates were doxycycline (18.73%, 53/283), metronidazole (16.96%, 48/283) and amantadine (7.26%, 17/234). The above-mentioned four veterinary drugs accounted for 90.08% (109/121) of the total detected samples. No statistically significant differences were found in veterinary drug residues in eggs from different sampling sites and different packaging types (P>0.05). The results of the risk assessment displayed that the values of IFS of the veterinary drugs detected ranged between 0.0001 and 0.2757, which were all less than 1. Conclusion There were a variety of veterinary drugs residues in eggs sold in markets in Tianjin Municipality during 2016-2021, but the health risk through dietary exposure to 27 veterinary drugs monitored was still within the acceptable ranges.
