Abstract:Objective To estimate the incidence of female breast cancer in Luoyang City during 2012-2018 based on the data from local cancer registries, and to provide a basis for breast cancer prevention and control in this city. Methods The cancer registration data from 2012 to 2018 were used to evaluate the prevalence of female breast cancer in urban and rural areas as well as age groups in Luoyang City. The incidence rate, mortality rate, cumulative rate, truncation rate, standardized rate and average annual percentage change (AAPC) were calculated. China's 2000 census population and Segi's population were used to calculate the age-standardized rate. Results A total of 6,600 female breast cancer cases were reported in Luoyang City during 2012-2018, with the average incidence rate of 41.43/100,000. The age-standardized incidence rate by Chinese standard population (ASIRC) and by world standard population (ASIRW) was 33.01/100,000 and 30.87/100,000, respectively. The cumulative incidence rate in the age group of 0-74 years was 3.35%, and the truncated rate in the age group of 35-64 years 74.71/100,000. Breast cancer ranked first among the incidence of all malignant tumors in women (15.80%). There were 1,491 female deaths due to breast cancer in Luoyang City during 2012-2018, with the mortality rate being 8.88/100,000. The age-standardized mortality rate by Chinese standard population (ASMRC) and by world standard population (ASMRW) were 6.58/100,000 and 6.32/100,000, respectively. The cumulative mortality rate in the age group of 0-74 years was 0.73%, and the truncated rate in the age group of 35-64 years 13.26/100,000. Breast cancer deaths ranked the fifth among all female deaths owing to malignant tumors (6.99%). Most of the female breast cancer cases in Luoyang City were women aged 40-69 years, and most of the female deaths due to breast cancer were women aged 40-79 years. The cancer incidence and mortality in urban areas (ASIRC:40.03/100,000, ASMRC:8.59/100,000) were higher than those in rural areas (ASIRC: 29.87/100,000, ASMRC:5.69/100,000). ASIRW of female breast cancer in Luoyang City showed an upward trend year by year (AAPC=3.102%, 95%CI:0.487%-5.813%, P<0.05), but no significant change was found in ASMRW (AAPC=-6.681%, 95%CI:-13.501%-0.746%, P>0.05). Conclusion Breast cancer is one of the main malignant tumors threatening the health of women in Luoyang City, and the disease burden is increasing day by day. It is necessary to further enhance comprehensive prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
