Abstract:Objective To investigate the contamination status of heavy metals in retailed food products in Dalian City. Methods Stratified random sampling method was used to collect 2,102 food samples of 7 categories from farmer markets, supermarkets and other monitoring sites in 10 administrative districts of Dalian City during 2011-2015. Graphite furnaceatomic absorption spectrometry and atomic fluorescence spectrometry were employed for determining the contents of lead, cadmium, total mercury and total arsenic in the samples. Results The total detection rates and the exceeding standard rates of lead, cadmium, total mercury and total arsenic in 7 categories of food samples were 37.5% and 4.6%, 47.8% and 1.7%, 35.7% and 1.8%, 29.3% and 3.2% respectively. The detection rates and the average contents of lead (43.6%, 0.239mg/kg), cadmium (59.6%, 0.107mg/kg), total mercury (47.2%, 0.063mg/kg) and total arsenic (44.2%, 0.253mg/kg) inaquatic animals and their productswere higher than those in the food samples of other categories. The exceeding standard rates of lead and total mercury in dairy products were 9.2% and 5.1% respectively, the exceeding standard rate of total arsenic inaquatic animals and their productsand that of cadmium in vegetables were 7.1% and 2.7% respectively, which were both higher than thosein the other food categories. Conclusions The retailed food is subjected to different levels of heavy metal pollution in Dalian City,2011-2015. The pollution inaquatic animals and their productsand dairy products in Dalian City,2011-2015 is relatively serious. The government needs to further strengthen the supervision.
