Abstract:Objective To establish a simple and accurate method for rapid quantitative analysis of formic acid in urine samples of methanol poisoning. Methods The urine samples were analyzed by Metrohm 881 ion chromatograph after diluting and passingthrough the membrane. Formic acid was separated by Metrosep Organic Acids analysis column with 0.5 mmol/L sulfuric acid as the eluent, and a conductivity detector was used for the detection. Results The detection limit of formic acid in urine was 0.02 mg/L, with a good linear correlation (r=0.9997) in the range of 0.5-10.0 mg/L. The recoveries ranged from 98.2 to 102.7%, and the relative standard deviation was between 2.8 and 4.7%. Conclusions This method provides easy pre-processing of sample, high selectivity, satisfactory accuracy and good precision, which is suitable for rapid and quantitative determination of formic acid in urine and can provide reference data for investigation and treatment of methanol poisoning.
