Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating effect of hope level on relationship between social support and loneliness in tumor patients. Methods Two hundred and forty-one tumor patients were conveniently selected as the research subjects.General information questionnaire, Herth Hope Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale and Cancer Loneliness Scale were used for a questionnaire survey. The mediating effect of hope level on relationship between social support and loneliness in the tumor patients were analyzed. Results The total scores of hope level, perceived social support and loneliness in the tumor patients were (32.29±6.92), (53.17±13.71) and (16.94±6.67), respectively. The level of hope was positively correlated with perceived social support, but negatively correlated with cancer loneliness. Perceived social support was negatively associated with cancer loneliness. Social support not only directly affected loneliness of the tumor patients, but also indirectly affected loneliness through themediating effect of hope. The intermediary effect accounted for 49.92% of the total effect. Conclusion Hope level is an intermediary variable between social support and loneliness in the tumor patients. Medical professionals should take targeted intervention measures and improve the tumor patients’ social support and hope level so as to reduce their loneliness.
