Abstract:Objective To revise the Cyber-Aggression Typology Questionnaire (CATQ) proposed by Runions et al. and examine its validity and reliability in Chinese middle school students. Methods A stratified multistage cluster random sampling method was used to recruit 914 middle school students to complete the translated CATQ. The Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPAQ) and the Cyberbullying Behavior Scale (CBS) were used as the criteria. Results The revised CATQ contained 23 items and 4 subscales, including impulsive-aversive, controlled-aversive, controlled-appetitive and impulsive-appetitive. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the revised CATQ had acceptable construct validity (χ2/df =21.73, RMSEA=0.04, CFI=0.93, IFI=0.93, NFI=0.88). The internal consistency coefficient and retest reliability of the revised CATQ were 0.81 and 0.72, respectively. The internal consistency coefficients of the four subscales were 0.85, 0.68, 0.79 and 0.50, respectively, with the retest reliability being 0.60, 0.74, 0.76 and 0.63, respectively. Conclusion The revised CATQ has satisfying reliability and validity as well as certain reference significance in assessing different typologies of cyber-aggression caused by different motives in middle school students. Future studies should expand the sampling range and take samples from multiple groups so as to verify the applicability of the CATQ and thenpopularize it.
