Abstract:Objective To analyze the reliability generalization (RG) of the published articles concerning the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ) from 2005 to May, 2016, and to provide descriptive reliability and predictor variables for INQ users in the study of suicide prevention. Methods A total of 173 published articles based on INQ as a psychometric tool were selected from Embase and other databases, and 137 articles which met the selection criteria were finally enrolled. The approach of alpha coefficient effect study was used to test the reliability of the two dimensions of INQ, and 8 variables (such as the number of participants) were taken as predicting variables to explore influencing factors by weighted regression analysis. Results The descriptive reliability of the two dimensions of INQ was both above 0.86. The number of items, the nationality of participants, the number of participants and the ratio of gender could significantly predict the Cronbach's α coefficient of thwarted belongingness (TB) dimension(β=-0.301, β=0.524, β=-0.426,P<0.01;β=-0.151,P<0.05). The number of participants could significantly predict the Cronbach's α coefficient of perceived burdensomeness(PB) dimension(β=-0.310,P<0.01). Conclusions INQ is able to meet the need for reliability of measurement in the study of suicide prevention. Researchers are proposed to report the Cronbach's α coefficients of two dimensions in detail, think twice to use the revised versions with less items, enroll sufficient participants (the percentile of females is supposed not to be too much low) and simultaneously pay attention to the influence of nationality of participants on the reliability of INQ.
