Abstract:Objective To investigate the dietary situation of children aged 6-12 years in HaiKou City so as to provide a basis for guiding rational dietary pattern. Methods A total of 1,248 school-age children aged 6-12 years were randomly selected from 8 public primary schools in HaiKou City in 2015. A 3-day dietary survey was conducted, and the status of dietary intake of the children was evaluated according to Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents and Chinese Dietary Reference Intake. Results The diet of the children aged 6-12 years in HaiKou City mainly consisted of grain and potatoes, and the daily intake was (318.1±41.6)g. The intake of milk and dairy products (166.8±51.2)g was less than the recommended intake level. The energy supply ratios of protein, fat and carbohydrate were 13.65%, 33.17% and 53.18% respectively. The daily intake of vitamin B1 and calcium was (0.8±0.2)mg and (421.4±161.4)ug respectively, and the proportions of children with vitamin B1 and calcium intake more than recommended nutrient intake (RNI) /adequate intake (AI) was 34.8% and 37.6% respectively. Conclusions The diet of school-age children in HaiKou City mainly consists of grain, and the dietary pattern is reasonable. But there still exist some problems; and hence, we suggest that nutrition propaganda and education should be strengthened in HaiKou City and dietary supply of dairy products and vegetables should be enhanced.
