Abstract:Objective To explore the fatigue condition and its influencing factors of primary caretakers of stoke patients so as to collect clinical data for further intervention. Methods Totally, 200 primary caretakers of stoke patients were selected from 3 hospitals in Xianning City in December, 2015. A survey was conducted by using the questionnaire about general condition, Fatigue Scale-14 (FS-14), the Activity of Daily Living Scale (ADL), the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ). Results The scores of physical fatigue (6.14±1.43), mental fatigue (3.66±1.07) and total fatigue (9.80±2.15) of the caretakers were significantly higher than those of the Chinese norm (t=23.998, t=24.659, t=28.282, all P<0.001). Multiple regression analysis showed that the ADL scores, care experience, character orientation, age and marital status were the risk factors affecting the total score of FS-14, while the scores of SSRS, of positive coping of SCSQ and self-evaluation of health were the protective factors. The above facators could predict 94.3% of the total score of FS-14. The regression equation was y=15.858-0.152x1+0.107x2+0.346x3+0.289x4+0.011x5-3.543x6+0.248x7+0.28x8 (R2=0.943,F=414.103, P<0.001). Conclusions The primary caretakers of stoke patients are in a serious fatigue. The patients’ poor daily living abilities, the caretakers’ negative care experience, introverted personality, advanced age and marriage status contribute to the exhaustedness, but the good social support, self-evaluation of health and positive coping are conducive to relieving fatigue of the caretakers.
