Abstract:Objective To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of sports in community health service staff so as to provide a basis for improving the proportion of “sports population” in the staff, implementing the policy of “integration of sports and medicine” and promoting population health. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 3,061 community health workers selected from 253 community health service institutions in Yantai City according to the stratified random sampling method. Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression were used to explore the factors influencing the workers’ participation in sports. Results Among the 3,061 workers surveyed, 603 (19.70%) respondents had rich knowledge of sports, 2,267(74.06%) loved sports, and 721 (23.55%) reached the “sports population” standard. There were statistically significantdifferences in the proportion of “sports population” among different genders, ages, educational levels, working years, knowledge of sports and bodybuilding, knowledge of “sports prescription”, attitude towards sports, attitude towards “integration of sports and medicine”, status of physical fitness monitoring, and allocation of physical exercise facilities in workplaces (χ2=38.925, χ2=51.053, χ2=39.953, χ2=47.812, χ2=219.604, χ2=257.246, χ2=218.309, χ2=94.682, χ2=474.972, χ2=91.669, all P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that gender (OR=1.493, 95%CI:1.217-1.832), age (OR=1.425, 95%CI:1.146-1.771), knowledge of sports and bodybuilding (OR=1.352, 95%CI:1.140-1.603), knowledge of “sportsprescription” (OR=1.811, 95%CI:1.446-2.268), attitude towards sports (OR=4.086, 95%CI:2.890-5.776), attitude towards “integration of sports and medicine” (OR=1.269, 95%CI:1.018-1.581), participation in physical fitness monitoring (OR=4.481, 95%CI:3.657-5.491), and allocation of physical exercise facilities near the institutions (OR=1.490, 95%CI:1.177-1.886) were correlated with playing sports in the community health service workers (P<0.05). Conclusion The community health service workers have strong willingness to play sports, but they lack knowledge of sports and bodybuilding and participation in sports. Gender, age, knowledge of sports and bodybuilding, knowledge of “sports prescription”, attitude towards sports, attitude towards “integration of sports and medicine”, participation in physical fitness monitoring and allocation of physical exercise facilities in workplaces are the factors affecting their participation in sports.
