Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical significance of serum β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) in kidney lesion after neonatal pneumonia. Methods The observation group consisted of 150 newborns with neonatal pneumonia from the Second Hospital of Qinhuangdao, including 90 cases of mild and moderate pneumonia and 60 cases of severe pneumonia, while 150 healthy newborns were simultaneously selected as the control group. The serum levels of β2-MG, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Cr) in the two groups were determined, and the detection results were analyzed. Results The serum levels of β2-MG, BUN and Cr in the observation group were (4.54±1.33)mg/L, (2.80±0.72) mmol/L and (34.70±4.64) μmol/L respectively, which were all significantly higher than those of the control group (all P<0.05). No statistically signifciant differences were found in the serum levels of BUN and Cr between the severe pneumonia group and the mild and moderate pneumonia group (both P>0.05), but the serum level of β2-MG in the severe pneumonia group was significantly higher than that in the mild and moderate pneumonia group((5.90±0.58)mg/L vs.(3.64±0.80)mg/L), showing a statistically significant diffenrence (P<0.05). Conclusion Serum β2-MG can be used as one of the more sensitive and precise indicators than BUN and Cr in the diagnosis of kidney lesion after neonatal pneumonia.
