Abstract:Objective To investigate the health status of cervical spine in occupational population, and to analyze the factors leading to or aggravating cervical spondylosis and its preventive measures. Methods Tencent questionnaire survey was conducted among workers chosen by cluster sampling from an automobile parts factory in Guangzhou city. SPSS 18.0 statistical software package was used for statistical description and analysis. Results Multivariate analysis showed that smoking (OR=0.253), drinking (OR=0.377) and comfortable or very comfortable placement of computer (OR=0.283, OR=0.053) were protective factors for cervical spine health (P=0.005, P=0.031, P=0.004, P=0.002) of management staff. As for production workers, drinking (OR=0.571), frequent or occasional rest when using computers (OR=0.160, OR=0.291) and feeling comfortable or very comfortable with desk and seat height (OR=0.550, OR=0.208) were protective factors for cervical spine health (P<0.05), while longtime use of mobile phone per day was the risk factor of cervical spine health (OR=1.125, P=0.018). Conclusions The health status of cervical spine and its influencing factors in workers with different works is various; and hence, the prevention and treatment should be conducted on a targeted basis. Low comfort of computer placement and desk and seat height and longtime or sedentary computer use without proper rest will lead to or aggravate cervical spondylosis. It is recommended to adjust the height of computer replacement, keep a good sitting posture, and avoid sedentary or longtime use of computer and mobile phone
