Abstract:Objective To study the association between the distribution of killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genotypes and disease progression among MSM living with HIV/AIDS, and to explore the role of KIR gene in clinical progression of HIV infection among MSM. Methods The KIR alleles of 353 MSM with HIV/AIDS were determined and genotyped, and the association of KIR genotypes with the progression of HIV infection was analyzed. Results The 353 MSM with HIV/AIDS were divided into the typical progression (TP) group (82.44%, 291/353) and the long-term non-progression (LTNP) group (17.56%, 62/353). The frequencies of KIR2DL3 and KIR3DL1 were higher in the LTNP group than in the TP group (both P<0.05). Conclusions KIR gene polymorphism can affect the disease progression in MSM with HIV infection. KIR2DL3 and KIR3DL1 genotypes may be the protective factors for delaying the progression to AIDS in HIV-infected MSM.
